Materials Needed
- Rocks: Choose smooth, clean, and aesthetically pleasing stones.
- Leather cords: Available in various colours and styles.
- Scissors: For cutting cords.
- Awl: For weaving the leather
- Optional: Small charms or decorative elements.
Step-by-Step Wrapping Guide:
-
Select Your Rock
Choose a rock that’s smooth and has an appealing shape or colour. Clean it thoroughly and let it dry. -
Plan Your Design
Decide on the pattern or knot style you want. Simpler designs work best for beginners. Classic knots like the musubi or awaji are great starting points. -
Secure the Rock
Cut a length of cord, about 1.5 metres depending on design. Use a L shape and wrap the leather right around crossing over the L. This prevents opening during wrapping. -
Start Wrapping
Wrap the cord around the rock snugly, creating a base layer. You can cross the cords to form patterns.
Use knots to secure the cords. The musubi knot is simple and elegant.
For added decorative effect. -
To finish
Once the cords are in place, Use an Awl to weave the end of the cord under what will be the bottom of the rock. -
Add Final Touches
Trim excess cords neatly.
-
Finish and Present
Your wrapped rock is now ready to be gifted or sold!

Tip: Practice makes perfect. The key is to keep the fabric tight but not so much that it can’t be wrapped.
Did you know that wrapped rocks can be purchased from £50-£150.
